We are pleased to announce that the Digital Repository of Ireland (DRI) has become a member of the Northern Ireland Museums Council (NIMC). NIMC is the lead body supporting local museums across Northern Ireland. They do this by managing the Museum Accreditation Scheme for Northern Ireland, providing grant assistance, managing a training programme and publications, promoting their members and advocating on their behalf. You can find out more about their programme of work on the ‘What We Do’ section of the NIMC website.

Siobhan Stevenson, Director of NIMC said:

The Northern Ireland Museums Council are delighted to welcome DRI as a member organisation. The preservation of digital collections is an important and growing area and it is a pleasure to see the expansion of NI Museums Council membership with organisations that share a commitment to high standards and to making collections available to a wide audience. We particularly look forward to benefiting from the knowledge and expertise that the DRI will bring as part of our network of museums and stakeholders.

Natalie Harrower, Director of DRI said:

The stewardship of cultural and heritage collections is a central pillar of what we do at DRI. We are an all-island body and are excited to become a member of Northern Ireland Museums Council, to join its community and learn more about the needs of museums and heritage sites in Northern Ireland. Through the NIMC’s training and education programme and network, we hope to better serve the needs of our members and make stronger connections across the island.

DRI’s membership of NIMC reflects DRI’s own growing membership of museums and cultural heritage institutions, and through this body, we can increase the depth of our knowledge of the sector. We look forward to attending NIMC’s events and training and learning from their experience of working with museums. DRI became a member of the Irish Museum Council in January 2022.
