Full Stack Feminism is delighted to be collaborating with Women in Focus and The Sussex Humanities Lab on this timely symposium AI and Archives: Explorations, Possibilities and Challenges. The symposium aims to explore the possibilities and challenges afforded by AI in archives, and does so specifically from an intersectional, eco, feminist perspective. The purpose of the symposium is to share interest in, knowledge of and concerns with AI systems in archives and archival practices. This event is an opportunity to engage in conversation and to support further formal and informal networking and collaboration. The organisers are therefore launching a call for papers (CFP) and welcome the perspectives and experiences of scholars, technologists, archivists, and practitioners.

The CFP includes, but is not limited to the following subject areas: Computer vision and archival cataloguing; feminisation of archival labour and automation; AI and machine learning in archival workflows; are AI curated archives possible/desirable; creativity and AI in archives; AI and audio-visual classification and search; AI and searchability; AI solutions to archival silence/gaps; radical possibilities afforded by AI tools; case studies of experiments and tests using AI in archives.

Proposals should include the title of your paper/presentation, a 250-word abstract and a 50-word bio. Please submit your proposal using this form. The organisers are open to different presentation styles and formats. Please indicate your preference in your submission. This is a hybrid event, please indicate whether you plan to present online or in person.

The symposium will take place at the Sussex Humanities Lab, University of Sussex, UK, April 27th – 28th and will be a hybrid event. The CFP is now open and closes on Monday 9th January 2023 3.00 GMT. A number of small travel bursaries will be made available.
