Tá Seathrún Ó Tuairisg mar Riarthóir ar Aonaid na Teicneolaíochta Faisnéise agus na Cumarsáide in Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge, Ollscoil na hÉireann, Gaillimh. Bhain sé Ph.D. amach i réimse na réalteolaíochta i Roinn na Fisice i nGaillimh, agus chaith sé trí bliana ag obair mar thaighdeoir iardhochtúireachta i Roinn na Teicneolaíochta Faisnéise, bhí a chuid taighde dírithe ar thábhacht ríomhaireacht ardfheidhmíochta agus na nuatheicneolaíochta, le béim faoi leith ar chúrsaí cartlainne. Faoi láthair, tá sé gníomhach i bhforbairtí úra an Acadaimh i réimse na cartlainne dhigitigh. I measc na rudaí atá faoi staidéir tá an poitéinseal oideachasúil atá ag ábhar cartlainne; modhanna nua digitithe d’ábhar teanga-lárnaithe; agus forbairt ar ardáin ionas gur féidir leis an bpobal trí chéile dul i ngleic le hábhar cartlainne. In éineacht le baill eile ó Institiúid de Móra agus Scoil Huston san Ollscoil sin, is príomhthaighdeoir OÉ Gaillimh é sa tionscadal Taisclann Dhigiteach na hÉireann atá maoinithe ag PRTLI-5.

 

Seathrún Ó Tuairisg is Administrator of the Communications and Information Technology Departments of Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge, National University of Ireland, Galway. He obtained a PhD in Astronomy from NUI Galway, and spent three years working as a postdoctoral research associate, researching high performance computing as applied to astronomical data processing. At present he is active in developing an tAcadamh’s Irish language archiving strategy, which includes investigating the educational potential of digital archiving material, researching new digitisation techniques for language-specific material and creating platforms for public engagement of digital archives. Along with staff from the Moore Institute and the Huston School of Film and Digital Media, he is the NUI Galway Principal Investigator for the Digital Repository of Ireland
