Joan is the Digital Archivist working on the ComWICE Project, a collaboration between DRI, Insight and the Contemporary Music Centre.

A professional librarian, with over 20 years experience in media archives, Joan is also a qualified project manager and has recently completed an MSc. in Computing. Much of her experience was gained in RTÉ, where she began working in 1999, and where she undertook a variety of roles including Sound Archivist, Metadata Specialist and latterly, Business Process Manager. Joan has extensive experience in the digital media environment, having worked on many large-scale projects for RTÉ. These have included the transition of TV Post Production facilities to tapeless workflow (Avid Interplay CMS) and the specification of requirements for a Media Asset Management solution for RTÉ Libraries and Archives.

She has had a particular focus on workflow analysis and business processes in libraries and archives, as well as across the wider radio and TV production environments.  She represented RTÉ on a number of EBU working groups in the areas of Metadata (EBU P/Meta Semantic Metadata Schema working group) and Process Analysis, and was also a member of the Media Management Working Group of FIAT/IFTA. In her work as a sound archivist she was responsible for the establishment of the Lyric FM music library and archive and was co-author of An Index to Irish Composers produced as part of the Broadcasting in Ireland series of publications. Joan has also worked as a librarian for the Irish Times.
